Les Mots et la Violence
Words and Violence est un projet de recherche internationale focussé sur le rôle des
intellectuels littéraires en période de déclin démocratique, en utilisant à la fois des
approches statistiques et qualitatives. Des chercheurs en sociologie, science politique,
histoire et littérature examinent pourquoi écrivains, traducteurs et intellectuels ont fait
les choix qu’ils ont faits face à la censure et à la terreur, mais également une nouvelle
forme d’investissement public dans la culture, orchestrée par la dictature.
L’objectif est de produire une connaissance solide sur des questions historiques qui
font l’objet de vifs débats et qui sont d’une évidente actualité, mais qui sont rarement
étudiées de manière systématique.
Le colloque, qui se tiendra du 9 au 11 avril, réunira des chercheurs de Norvège, du
Danemark, des Pays-Bas, de Belgique, de France et de l’ex-Yougoslavie pour discuter
de l’occupation nazie dans le domaine culturel. Une attention particulière sera
accordée à la rétablissement de la démocratie par la justice transitionnelle et les
épurations professionnelles après la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
Words and Violence is an international research project focused on the role of literary
intellectuals during periods of democratic decline, using both statistical and qualitative
approaches. Researchers in sociology, political science, history, and literature examine why
writers, translators, and intellectuals made the choices they did when faced with censorship
and terror, as well as a new form of public investment in culture orchestrated by the
dictatorship. The goal is to produce solid knowledge on historical issues that are the subject of intense
debate and remain highly relevant today but are rarely studied in a systematic way.
The conference, which will take place from April 9 to 11, will bring together researchers from
Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and the former Yugoslavia to discuss
Nazi occupation in the cultural sphere. Special attention will be given to the restoration of
democracy through transitional justice and professional purges after World War II.
The symposium is open to the public and to colleagues, but please register by sending
